Rainbows
It's funny, but I didn't actually realize that I'd forgotten one project in my last post until I was clearing up a few balls of yarn from the living room. I actually made this scarf in less than a week over the Christmas holidays. With the extreme cold we were having around New Years I decided Monkey's little cowl collar scarf thing was not cutting it. He used to have one of those tubes you can use to cover your face, but it came with his very first snow suit, and did not fit him at all, so what's a knitterly mother to do?
Dive into her stash and make a scarf! I had intended the yarn to be for a scarf hat thing for myself, but the colours were not quite what I was looking for. I knew they'd be good for some kid something, so I held on to them. (Of course I held on to them! You're kidding me, right?) There were four hanks but I knew I didn't need it all... and so for about 30 seconds I wasn't going to use it, so as not to break up the yarn set. Then I gave my head a check and made this adorable thing. I'm so happy I did!
Last post made it sound like I never finish anything, but I do... I just happen to have SO MANY WORKS IN PROGRESS! I thought it was just nuts enough to share.
So. The blanket. I bought the kit from Knit Picks at least three years ago, and I had intended on making it for a future child, or you know, my current child, but I never got around to it. My brother is getting married this year and I thought it might be nice to give to them. It's going along quite well, and I am optimistic that I will get it done in time. Unfortunately Erik thinks I'm nuts. Fortunately it's not taking as long as he thought.
Just after I'd started, we decided to sleep over at my parents. Of course I brought the one ball of yarn I was working with and the colour I would need for the next square. I did not think I would actually get to the point of finishing the first square let alone the second, but I did... almost.
Unfortunately, I had miscounted the centre stitch of the second square, so the whole thing was off by just one stitch. Had it been later on in the process, I probably wouldn't have ripped it back, but it was only the second square and fortunately, I had time seeing as I had unfortunately not brought enough yarn to work on the next square anyway.
The next day the only way I could get little monkey to actually leave my parent's house was to promise to take him to McDonald's. As I sat there, watching him play, I thought, "Boy am I glad I started over again last night, otherwise I'd be very bored right now."
Fortunately, Unfortunately.
